India has Violated Missile Agreement: Pakistan

Islamabad on Thursday accused New Delhi of not fully complying with the agreement on advance notification of ballistic missile tests when India conducted its first successful test flight of a domestically developed missile capable of carrying multiple warheads.

Foreign Office Spokesperson of Pakistan Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said India violated the agreement before the test of a domestically made multi-warhead missile.

“Indian missile test noted on March 11 and had informed earlier. But according to the agreement, India did not inform three days before the experiment,” she said.

The agreement on pre-notification we believe must be complied with in letter and spirit,” she stressed.

It is pertinent to note that the Agni-5 missile was tested with Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology. Britain, China, France, Russia, and the United States are among the nations that use MIRV technology, while Pakistan tested it in 2017, according to the Washington-based advocacy group Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation.

Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch in a weekly press briefing said Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar took charge of the post wherein he got briefings on his arrival at the ministry.

In 2021, India successfully tested Agni-5, a nuclear-capable Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) with a range of 5,000 kilometers (3,125 miles) that is believed to be capable of targeting nearly all of China. Agni missiles are long-range surface-to-surface ballistic missiles.
