Helicopter Carrying Iranian President Raisi Makes Rough Landing; Rescue Teams Dispatched

A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi made a rough landing, prompting rescue teams to head to the site, according to Iran’s interior minister on Sunday. The state news agency IRNA reported that the helicopter had Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, and local officials on board.

The semi-official Fars news agency urged Iranians to pray for Raisi following the incident.

Interior Minister Ahmed Vahidi mentioned on state TV that authorities were waiting for more details.

Raisi, 63, was elected president in 2021 after a second attempt. Since taking office, he has enforced stricter morality laws, led a severe crackdown on anti-government protests, and taken a strong stance in nuclear negotiations with world powers.
