Iran and Pakistan tension spiked again, Iranian military conducted an operation again on Pakistani soil. Iran killed a senior commander of a Pakistan-based terror group. This is the second military attack by Tehran on Pakistani soil in less than two months. Iran targeted the Jaish Al-Adl terror camp in Balochistan, a province of Pakistan. Commander of Jaish al-adl Ismail Shahbakhsh was killed in the operation Iranian media reported. Other operatives of the terror groups were also killed.Al-ADL attacked an Iranian police station in December 2023 and killed at least 10 police personnel.
Jaish al-Adl is a military organization formed in 2012. It is a Balochi Sunni armed group operating in the Sistan-Baluchistan province of Iran, it is based in Pakistan’s Balochistan province. AL-Adl claims to be fighting for the Sunni population of Iran mainly living in the southern province of Sistan-Baluchistan. Iran has designated AI-ADL as a terrorist organization. Jais al-adl wanted to break Sistan-Baluchistan from Iran and form a separate nation for ethnic Balochi. In recent years the group has carried out numerous attacks on Iranian security forces.
On 16 January 2024, Iran conducted an air strike at Balochistan, Pakistan using missiles and drones. Tehran targeted two base camps of Jaish Al-Adl, reported Iranian media. However Pakistani media claimed that civilians had died in the air strikes.
After two days on January 18, 2024, Pakistan retaliated with air strikes on Iranian soil. Pakistani army targeted posts of the Balochistan Liberation Army(BLA), and the Balochistan Liberation Front(BLF) anti-Pakistan Baloch separatist group based in Iran. aggression between the two neighboring countries causes a global worry, as Pakistan is a nuclear-armed country.
Both nations had mutually agreed to de-escalate and expand security cooperation. Iran and Pakistan said they had decided to fight terrorism in their respective soil.
