Prime Minister Narendra Modi and His Political Carrier

Narendra Modi is an Indian politician who is serving as the 14th Prime Minister of India (since May 2014 till date). He was the Chief Minister of Gujarat State of Western India from 2001 to 2014. Modi was born on 17 September 1950 to a Hindu family in Vadnagar, Mehsana district of Gujarat (then Bombay State). He was the third of six children born to Damodardas Mulchand Modi and Hiraben Modi.

As a child, Modi used to work in his father’s tea shop in Vadnagar railway station. Narendra Damodardas Modi completed his higher secondary education in 1967 at Vadnagar. Modi was married to Jashodaben Modi in the year 1967, whom he abandoned soon. he publically acknowledged her when legally required to do so after four decades.

Modi began to attend Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Shang (RSS) training sessions (shakhas). he was inducted as a Junior Cadet (Balswayam Sevak) by Lakshman Rao Inamdar who became his Mentor. While Modi was training with RSS he began meeting political leaders, Vasant Gajendragadkar and Nathalal Jaghda among them. Vasant and Jaghda were the leaders of Bharatiya Jana Sang, who later helped to found the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Gujarat Unit.

In the 60s Modi traveled across the country. In the beginning, he travels north and northeast India. He visited Asram founded by Swamy Vivekananda. Modi also visited Bengal, Assam, and Ram Krishna Ashram in Almora. In the 70s he returned to Gujarat’s Ahmedabad, where he lived with his uncle and worked in his Uncle’s canteen at Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation.

In 1971, Modi became a full-time worker for RSS in Gujarat. In Jun 1971 then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi declared a state of emergency in India that lasted till 1977. Modi was appointed Lok Sangharsh Samiti Gujarat’s( RSS committee) General secretary. Modi was forced to go underground as RSS was banned and their leader was assessed. He was involved in printing pamphlets opposing the central government. he used to dress as a monk and sometimes as a Sikh to avoid arrest. He also works to create a safe network for individuals wanted by the government. He was also involved in raising funds for political refugees and activities.

In 1978 Modi became RSS regional organiser (Sambhar Pracharak). He went to work for RSS in Delhi, in 1979. In 1985, Modi was assigned to the BJP. Modi organized the Ahmedabad Municipal election Campaign, which the party won comfortably. In 1990 Modi was named as a member of the National Election Committee of BJP. He also helped Advani to organize the Ram Rath Yatra in 1990 and Murli Manohar Joshi’s Ekta Yatra (Journey for Unity) in 1991-92. In 1995 Modi was elected as BJP national secretary. Modi was on the selection committee for the 1998 Gujarat Legislative Assembly election. BJP won an overall majority in the 1998 election and Modi was promoted to BJP general secretary in May of that year.

In 2001, Narendra Modi was appointed as the new Chief Minister of Gujarat State as a replacement for Keshubhai Patel. As a Chief Minister Modi succeeded in advancing the election in December 2002 and continued as Chief Minister until 2014. After the Bharatiya Janata Party-let National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won a landslide victory in the 2014 Lok Sabha election. Narendra Modi Sworn in as Prime Minister of India on May 26, 2014. Narendra Modi is the first Prime Minister of India born in Independent India. Modi continued as P.M. in 2019 and became the fourth-longest-serving Prime Minister and longest-serving non-congress Prime Minister of India.
